Community Education and Training

 

Transitions offers public awareness and training to educate community members and allied professionals about the issue of domestic violence and its effects on individuals, families and the community. We believe that knowledge is key and that together with an informed community we can eliminate domestic violence.

Speaking/Training topics include:

  • Domestic Violence 101 

  • The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

  • Legal options for victims of Domestic Violence (Including Safety planning and Lethality Assessments) 

  • Domestic Violence and Senior Citizens 

  • Domestic Violence and Military Families 

  • Domestic Violence in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender) community 

  • Domestic Violence in the Faith Community

Domestic Violence and the Work-Place
Domestic violence in the workplace is a safety and health issue. It can lead to reduced productivity, increased medical expenses and increased risk of violence. Invite us to talk to your organization about:

  • Identifying domestic violence in the workplace 

  • How to increase safety and security 

  • How to talk to an employee you think is being abused 

  • Establish or revise procedures and protocols around domestic violence

Prevention Education 
Transitions is dedicated to educating everyone—especially youth– about healthy relationships and addressing the attitudes/ behaviors that can lead to unhealthy relationships in the future. We will work with schools, youth groups, therapeutic camps and after-school programs with youth ranging from ages 4-17.

Topics include:

  • Healthy vs. unhealthy relationships (Peers, parents, teachers and boyfriend/girlfriend) 

  • Gender stereotypes 

  • Media messages that encourage violence 

  • Bullying 

  • By-stander Intervention 

  • Teen dating abuse 

  • Character Building
